Frequently asked questions

Which prayer-time calculation method does Eisaal use?

Eisaal uses the Ja'fari (Shia Ithna-Ashari) method only. It shows the three prayer periods observed in Shia practice — Fajr, Zohrain (Zohr and Asr) and Maghribain (Maghrib and Isha) — rather than five separate times. There is no option to switch to another school’s method, and that is deliberate.

Times are calculated on your device from your approximate location, or from the city you set. Nothing is fetched from a prayer-time server, so the feature works fully offline once a location is in place.

To adjust it: Settings → Prayer Settings lets you shift individual prayer times by a set number of minutes, which is useful when your local mosque follows a slightly different convention.

My prayer times look a few minutes off. What should I check?
  • Confirm your location is right — Settings → Prayer Settings → location. If you have travelled, re-detect it or type your new city.
  • Check your phone’s time zone is set automatically.
  • Local mosques often round or apply a precaution of a few minutes. Use the per-prayer minute adjustment in Prayer Settings to match your community.
  • At very high latitudes, and during long summer days, calculated Fajr and Isha are unreliable in every app. Follow your marja’s guidance for those months.

Prayer times in the app are calculated approximations. Where the validity of a prayer depends on the exact time, verify with your local mosque or your marja’s office.

I’m not getting prayer notifications.

Eisaal schedules all reminders locally on your device, with no push server involved, so the cause is almost always a device permission or a battery setting.

First, in the app:

  • Settings → Notifications — make sure prayer reminders are enabled, and that the individual prayers you want (Fajr, Zohrain, Maghribain) are switched on.
  • Make sure a location or city is set, since reminders are scheduled from your prayer times.
  • Open the app from time to time. Reminders are scheduled ahead in batches and are refreshed each time you open it.

On Android:

  • System Settings → Apps → Eisaal → Notifications — allow notifications, and check the prayer channel is not muted or set to silent.
  • System Settings → Apps → Eisaal → Battery — set to Unrestricted. Aggressive battery optimisation (common on Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung and Huawei devices) is the single most frequent cause of missing alarms.
  • Allow “Alarms & reminders” if your Android version asks for it.
  • Do not force-stop or swipe the app away from recents repeatedly; on some devices that cancels scheduled alarms.

On iPhone or iPad:

  • System Settings → Notifications → Eisaal — allow notifications, with sounds and banners on.
  • Check Focus / Do Not Disturb and Scheduled Summary are not holding them back — add Eisaal as an allowed app if you use Focus modes.
  • Check the ringer and volume, and that silent mode is not suppressing the alert sound.

If none of that helps, email us with your device model and OS version and we will look into it.

How do I export my data?

Settings → Legal → Data & Privacy → Export My Data.

The app builds a single JSON file on your device and passes it to your phone’s share sheet, so you can save it to Files or Drive, email it to yourself, or send it elsewhere. Nothing is emailed automatically; you choose where the file goes.

The export includes: your profile, app settings and preferences, favourites and collections, bookmarks, qaza profiles, your aamaal and aamaal completions, personal Hijri events, prayer notification settings, tasbeeh sessions, mohr (sajda) sessions, and khums calculations.

If a section cannot be read — for example because you are offline and that section lives in your account — the export still completes and marks the section as unavailable. Run it again with a connection if anything looks missing.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. It is immediate and permanent.

If you have already uninstalled the app, follow the email route on our Delete Account page, which also lists exactly what gets erased.

Do I need an account, or an internet connection?

Neither is required for the core of the app. The Quran, duas, ziyarat, taqeebat and aamaal are bundled with the download and read offline, and prayer times, qibla, tasbeeh and khums are all calculated on your device.

A connection is needed only to sign in, to sync favourites and qaza records across devices, to look up a city name when you set your location, and to fetch Hijri calendar data.

Why does Mohr-e-Ameen ask for the camera on iPhone?

iPhones do not expose an ambient-light sensor to apps, so on iOS the sajda tracker uses the camera purely as a light meter. Each frame is measured in memory, reduced to a single brightness value, and discarded. No photo or video is stored, displayed or sent anywhere.

On Android the app uses the phone’s built-in light sensor and does not request camera permission at all.

You can decline camera access; the rest of the app works normally without it.

The app can’t detect my location.

Eisaal asks only for approximate location, and only while the app is open. If detection fails, check that location services are enabled for Eisaal in your system settings, and that you are not indoors with a weak signal.

You never have to grant the permission. In Settings → Prayer Settings you can type your city, state and country instead, and prayer times are calculated from that.

The qibla arrow is drifting or pointing the wrong way.

The qibla compass depends on your phone’s magnetometer. Move away from metal surfaces, magnets, magnetic phone mounts, laptops and cars, then calibrate by moving the phone in a figure-of-eight a few times. Check that your location is set correctly, since the bearing is computed from it.

For an act of worship where direction matters, confirm with a physical compass or your local mosque.

How do I change the marja I follow, or my other profile details?

Open your profile from Settings and edit it there. Your marja, name, gender, city and khums start date can each be changed or cleared at any time. Recording a marja is optional, and the app works without it.
